Welrome Hotel, Rome - a home away from home

Bean & Crumpet is compelled to write about Welrome Hotel in Termini, Rome. This little hotel is run by a couple, Mary and Carlo. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and relaxed in the hotel and guide you to the best sights and restaurants when heading out. Mary looked after us and made sure that we were aware of the pickpockets lurking everywhere (our mamma away from home) :)

The rooms are very clean and nice, and the air condition is a great plus. Bean and Crumpet highly recommend this establishment and remember: Welrome is extremely popular these days, due to great feedback in the Internet so make sure to book as early as possible.

Bean & Crumpet on suorastaan pakotettu kirjoittamaan Welrome Hotellista, Terminissä, Roomassa. Tämän pienen hotellin omistavat pariskunta nimeltään Mary ja Carlo. He tekevät kaikkensa, jotta vieraat tuntisivat olonsa mukaviksi ja rentoutuneiksi hotellissa sekä opastavat parhaimmille nähtävyyksille ja ravintoloihin niin halutessasi. Mary piti meistä huolta ja varoitti taskuvarkaista, joita on Roomassa nykyisin sankoin joukoin (hän oli kuin oikea mami meille :))

Huoneet ovat erittäin siistit ja näppärät ja ilmastointi on ehdoton plussa. B&C suosittelevat tätä hotellia ja muistuttavat: Welrome on nykyisin erittäin suosittu (erittäin positiivisen netti-palautteen takia), joten varaus kannattaa tehdä ensitilassa.

Quite, quite.

Is it a sign of getting older, that one prefers to sit in the front of a bus/tram (near the safety of the driver) instead the back (away from the authorities)? I think so..

Heavy weather

Travel photography is a form of photography practised by almost everyone treating on this earth. Unfortunately it is often the most boring form, together with taking photos of your children or pets. In the age of digital photography one can capture ones hole trip from start to finish (from your doorstep and back again). Of course this is “a sin” which I myself commit also:) One can wonder, is there anything worse than to look through a couple of hundred photos from your friend’s trip? This flicking through comes with almost painful narrative: first they wonder what the picture is about (because it’s out of focus) and then they wonder where the picture was taken (because they have taken pictures of everything, what they have seen). On top of everything the pictures are often incredibly dull: general views, that don’t present properly the beauty, size or richness of colour of their subject.

On the other hand, digital photography has been a great equalizer: because one does not need to develop the pictures (which is relatively expensive) to look at them later, many are financially able to capture their experiences. Even though the quantity of photos has increased due digitalisation, it is interesting to ponder, which amount of them will survive to following generations (just for the reason that people don’t develop them anymore) and which will be forever lost in to byte space.

Matkavalokuvaaminen on lähes jokaisen pallontallaajan harrastama valokuvauksen laji. Valitettavasti se on myös usein tylsin, omien lasten ja lemmikkien kuvauksen ohella. Digitaalisen kuvauksen aikakautena voi koko matkan ikuistaa kuviin, alusta loppuun (kotiovelta alkaen ja sinne päättyen). Tietysti tähän ”syntiin” syyllistyy itsekin :) Jokainen voi miettiä, onko kamalampaa olemassa, kuin joutua tuijottamaan muutama sata kuvaa tuttavan matkalta? Kuvien katseluun liittyy myös usein tuskastuttava selostus: ensin mietitään, mitä kuvassa on (kuvat ovat epätarkkoja) sitten mietitään, missä kuva on otettu (kun kaikki mitä matkalla on nähty, on pitänyt ikuistaa). Kaiken lisäksi kuvat ovat vielä luokattoman tylsiä: yleiskuvia, joista ei saa todellista käsitystä paikkojen kauneudesta, massiivisuudesta tai värikylläisyydestä.

Toisaalta digikuvaus on tuonut uutta tasa-arvoa valokuvaamiseen: koska kuvia ei tarvitse kehittää (mikä on suhteellisen kallista) voidakseen katsella niitä myöhemmin, on yhä useammalla taloudellisesti mahdollista ikuistaa omia kokemuksiaan. Vaikka valokuvaaminen onkin lisääntynyt huimasti digitaalisuuden myötä, on mielenkiintoista miettiä, mikä määrä kuvista säilyy tuleville polville, (juuri siitä syystä, koska kuvia ei enää kehitetä) vaan häviää bittiavaruuteen lopullisesti.
