The pig I see here is pig that has obviously been on the toot of a lifetime for days on end

Our bedroom has a new decor: wallpaper, paint and white lacquer, new furniture, new curtain rod, new mattress & pad. Curtains were dry-cleaned, windows & floor were thoroughly scrubbed and in the closet there are new Elfa’s.

Because our apartment block was build in the 1950’s, in our choice of wallpaper we decided upon that periods design, which we found in Tapettitalo. Poikilo, Lisa Johanson-Pape’s graphic design was very pleasing to both of us – it’s colour and styling – so the choice was easy to make. Above our Vienna-Pig (we have another, identical pig from Paris:)) is marvelling at the new wallpaper.

Makuuhuoneemme on saanut uuden ilmeen: tapettia, maalia ja valkolakkaa, uudet kalusteet, uusi verhotanko, uusi patja& petauspatja. Verhot on pesetetty, ikkunat & lattia on huolella pesty ja vaatekaapeissa on uudet Elfat.

Koska kerrostalomme on 1950-luvulta, päädyimme tapettivalinnassa tuon aikakauden malliin, joka löytyi Tapettitalosta. Poikilo, Lisa Johanson-Papen suunnittelema graaffinen tapetti miellytti sekä väriltään, että muotoilultaan meitä molempia, joten valinta oli helppo. Yllä uutta tapettia ihmettelee Wienin-Possumme (meillä on toinen, identtinen possu Pariisista:)).

Sometimes not so bright

Rats, doorknobs, birds, heights, open spaces, confined spaces. It's very diffucult getting the space right for, really. Footballs, bicycles, cows. And she is always on about men following her. I don't know what she thinks they are going to do to her. Vomit on her, Basil says. And death. She's frightened of death. I told her there is nothing she can do about it, on about it the full time, she is. I mean, nature can only take its course. Only thing you can hope for is that won't be long, drawn out and painful. But she can't accept that."

And like with art in general, some of the stencil works are great, some not so great. Often they are funny, opinionated, political, erotic or just current. A marvellous stencil gets the spectator to think, admire the technical skills of the artist and inspires..for example to blog..

We have gained a new member to our family: Carmona microphylla also referred as Fukien Tea Tree. A few years ago Bean had to give up his bonsai tree, so it was about time to get a replacement. Even though Carmona has a reputation of being a malsai, it is none the less dear to us and has opened the fascinating world of bonsai growing to us little green fingers..

I wanted to be clearly understood before you start

Yesterday they played women's EURO CUP Final in Olympic Stadium, a fact that became apparent when we walked pass the place, to swim in the Swimming Stadium.

In our family we don't do spectator sports. The one time Crumpet went into a hockey match she thought on the first intermediate that the game was over..:D (Well, she was only ten:))

When we travelled to Vienna in 2008, neither of us knew that we had booked our trip coinciding with men's EURO CUP games - this we only found out when we were about to book a hotel and for some reason all the rooms seemed to be booked :D Well, Crumpet agreed to watch the Final in bar near our hotel, even though that took good amount of refreshments..

To have common knowledge, one has to know a certain amount of information on sports as well, but that in our opinion that can be required by reading the sports pages cursory..to us that's enough of our time we can waste on the matter.

Eilen Olympiastadionilla pelattiin naisten jalkapallon EM-finaali - asia mikä kävi hyvin selväksi, kun siitä ohi kävelimme Stadikalle uimaan..

Meidän perheessämme ei harrasteta penkkiurheilua. Kun C aikoinaan sen yhden ja ainoan kerran meni jääkiekko-otteluun, luuli hän ensimmäisellä väliajalla, että peli päättyi siihen.. :D. (Hän oli tosin silloin vasta kymmenen:))

Kun matkustimme Wieniin 2008, emme kumpikaan tienneet, että matkamme oli buukattu juuri jalkapallon EM-kisojen aikaan - tämä selvisi meille vasta siinä vaiheessa kun olimme varaamassa hotellia ja kaikki paikat olivat mystisesti täynnä :D No, C suostui silti katsomaan finaaliottelun hotellin lähibaarissa, tosin se vaati hieman marinointia..

Yleissivistykseen kuuluu tietty tietomäärä myös urheilusta, jonka saavuttaa mainiosti lukemalla urheilusivut kursorisesti läpi..enempää emme aiheeseen jaksa aikaa haaskata.

Then that's settled

We visited Benjam's Bistro in Töölö with Bean's parents. Place was filled to it's capacity (reservation highly recommended!) and it's Italian speaking staff chatting cheerfully, so it was easy to remember why we like the place: the food and the atmosphere are straightforwardly good.

Pictured above Agnolotti Alla Panna (porcini & parmesan filled pasta in cream sauce) and their delectable tiramisu, that even Crumpet is compelled to order every time (even though she does not like sweet desserts, as you know already:))

Kävimme B:n vanhempien kanssa Benjam's Bistrossa Töölössä. Viimeistä paikkaa myöten täydessä ravintolassa (pöytävaraus kannattaa ehdottomasti tehdä!), italiankielisen henkilökunnan pulputtaessa iloisesti, ei ollut vaikea muistaa, miksi pidämme paikasta: ruoka ja tunnelma on mutkattoman hyvää.

Kuvissa Agnolotti Alla Panna (herkkutatti- & parmesaanitäytteistä pastaa kermakastikkeella) ja suussa sulava tiramisu, jonka myös Crumpet tilaa aina (vaikkei makeista jälkiruuista yleensä pidä, kuten hyvin tiedätte :))

Do you know what time it is?

Parisuhteen ajautuessa täydelliseen umpikujaan joko erotaan tai sitten yritetään epätoivoisesti viedä suhdetta eteenpäin. Suhdetta viedään (näennäisesti) eteenpäin usein samoilla keinoilla kuin toimivaakin, onnellista suhdetta: mennään naimisiin, ostetaan tai rakennetaan yhteinen koti (tai hankitaan muuta merkittävää yhteistä omaisuutta) tai sitten päätetään hankkia lapsi. Kaikilla näillä keinoilla pyritään sitoutumaan itse/sitomaan toinen osapuoli parisuhteeseen, pyritään näyttämään ulkopuolisille ja itselle, että asiat ovat hyvin, pyritään välttämään lopun kohtaaminen.

Tällainen parisuhteen yhteinen projekti (oli se edellä mainituista mikä tahansa) antaa parille uutta tekemistä, sillä pyritään täyttämään kahden ihmisen välinen tyhjiö. Hetkeksi se ehkä onnistuukin, mutta yleensä lopulta ongelmat kasvavat entistä suuremmiksi ja yhä suurempaa katkeruutta eron vääjäämättömyyden edessä aiheuttaakin suhteen pelastamiseksi tarkoitettu "projekti" - miksi ostimme yhteisen asunnon, miksi menimme naimisiin - jos tästä ei mitään tullut kuitenkaan? Miksi emme lopettaneet tätä suhdetta jo aiemmin?

Itse aikoinani päädyin eroon, eikä tuhoontuomittua suhdetta yritetty mitenkään laastaroida henkiin. Ehkä siksi välillämme ei ole katkeruutta tai vihaa. Oli vain helpottunut olo puolin ja toisin - onneksi tämä kaikki on ohi. Ehkä siksi ystävyytemme säilyi ja kumpikin meistä on onnellinen toisen puolesta - kumpikin meistä on löytänyt onnen elämäänsä.

Tappion hetkellä on vaikeaa myöntää hävinneensä. Haavat kirvelevät ja häviö masentaa. Mutta joskus on - loppujen lopuksi - helpompaa myöntää häviö ajoissa. Kaikkia taisteluja ei tarvi käydä viimeiseen veripisaraan.
