Mukavan lomapäivän resepti: kevyttä siivoilua Metallican Ride the Lightning levyn soidessa (tämä putkiremontin evakkokotimme puhdistuu hetkessä), kävelyretki syksyisessä valossa (kotiseutumatkailua parhaimmillaan), Korjaamolle ihmettelemään Heikki Marilan kukkia (Carnegie Art Award 2012 myönnettiin ihan syystä), kävelystä nälkäisinä ravintola Kuuhun syömään (kolme ruokalajia, kyllä kiitos), jatketaan edelleen jalan Tennispalatsiin Aki Kaurismäen Le Havre-elokuvan maailmaan (taas tuli Ranskaa ikävä), sitten Stockmannille ostamaan viikonlopun herkkuja (lista valmiina, tietty), kotiin leipomaan herkkuleipää ja valmistelemaan ranskalaisia (tartarpihviä & entrecote ja lasissa Château Sénilhac), sohvalle pötkimään & torkkumaan ja uusi Keeping Up Appearances -sarjan 5 tuotantokauden dvd pyörimään ("My Royal Doulton with handpainted periwinkles.").

He stood silently supporting himself with one hand against a cab shelter and catching invisible flies with other, a sort of sweet, fixed smile on his face

Sam Marlowe: "Perharps I'll come back tomorrow."
Arnie Rogers: "When's that?"
Sam Marlowe: "The day after today."
Arnie Rogers: "That's yesterday. Today's tomorrow."
Sam Marlowe: "It was."
Arnie Rogers: "When was tomorrow yesterday, Mr Marlowe?"
Sam Marlowe: "Today."
Arnie Rogers: "Oh, sure. Yesterday."

I'll drop you

"Chivalry got killed by the feminist movement in all them magazines that got women goin' crazy because women got too much advice about men from other women. And they don't know what the fuck they're talking about. And it's true. I see the shit in the magazines. I don't read 'em, but I be seein' the cover. I look at - you ever be in the grocery store, fellas, you look at one of them magazines, and it say on the cover, "a hundred ways to please your man" by some lady. Get outta here, man. Come on. Ain't no hundred ways. That list is four things long. Just suck his dick, play with balls and fix him a sandwich and don't talk so much. And that makes them happy. That's it."

The sunshine was suddenly blotted from his life

Wallace: "Won't you come in? We were just about to have some cheese."
Wendolene: "Oh no, not cheese. Sorry. Brings me out in a rash. Can't stand the stuff."
Wallace: "Not even Wensleydale?"

Subdued and chastened

Ben Hood: "Paul, I was thinking, this may be as good as time as any to have a little talk. About, uh.Well, about a..well the hole gamut. Uh. Facts of life. 'Cos I tell you this, there are things happening that you are probably old enough to digest."
Paul Hood: "Things."
Ben Hood: "Things that happen between a... Uh..Well, uh. On the self-abuse front. And this is important. I don't think it's advisable to do it in the shower. Wastes water and electricity and because we all expect you to be doing it in there anycase. And not on the linen. Uh. Anyway, if your worried about anything at all, uh, feel free to ask, and we'll look it up."
Paul Hood: "Dad, you know I'm sixteen."
Ben Hood: "All to more reason to having this little heart to heart."

All day long

Bean to Crumpet after lunch:"With you, the food tastes better."

On Friday we spent a day off together and got a chance to enjoy the spring sun. First we went for a swim (where are all these grannies coming from) and then to restaurant Mamma Rosa (it´s too far away to visit during lunch hour on work days). Then we toddled of to see Alice in Wonderland (original version in 3D) in the movies, which turned out to be a disappointment for us Lewis Carroll fans. From the cinema we headed to Amos Anderson art museum, to see M.C.Escher exhibition "Impossible Worlds"(works were impressively beautiful in all their details).

Then we decided to walk to Hakaniemi Market Hall, where we bought some Parmegiano-Reggiano (for Risotto Fungi Porcini) from cheese shop Lentävä Lehmä (Flying Cow in English) amongst other things. After all this, it was nice to spend an evening on the coach enjoying vinho verde and selection of specialty beers...

Bean Crumpetille lounaan jälkeen: "Sinun kanssasi ruoka maistuu paremmalta."

Vietimme perjantaina yhteisen vapaapäivän ja saimme nauttia ihanasta kevätauringosta. Pyrähdimme päivän aluksi uimaan (mistä näitä mummoja oikein tulee), sitten lounaalle ravintola Mamma Rosaan (kun sinne ei normityöpäivänä ehdi lounasajan puitteissa), sitten elokuviin katsomaan Alice in Wonderland [orig. 3D](joka osoittautui valitettavasti meille Lewis Caroll faneille pettymykseksi) ja Amos Andersonin taidemuseoon katsastamaan M.C. Escherin Mahdottomia maailmoja näyttely (teokset olivat yksityiskohtaisuudessaan vaikuttavan kauniita).

It was he who led the liveliest sallies

This weekend will be spent eating yummy foods, cuddling and being silly.

Today Bean bathes in one of Helsinki's public saunas (and Crumpet waterjoggs 'till she drops), after which we'll dine in Soul Kitchen (reservation highly recomended).

Saturday we'll take a morning dip into the pool, lunch in Spaghetteria (or Spagsu as we like to call it), then we are on our way Up (we've been dying to see the film, after we saw the trailer in N.Y.). After the movie some well deliberated shopping in Stockmann and take away -sushi for the evening. Mmm, laying on our couch and cuddling.

Sunday another dip and some pelmeni and general relaxation..

Sounds about just right..

Kuulostaa parahultaiselta..

Quote of the day

"Suddenly the king noticed the scent of the flowers.
He noticed, that the sky was blue and earth green.
King felt that joy and sorrow are siblings in human existence.
And without them life is empty."

Narrator in the movie King without a heart which is based in Mika Waltari's play
(Translation from Finnish by Bean & Crumpet)

----------------
"Äkkiä kuningas huomasi kukkien tuoksuvan.
Hän huomasi, että taivas oli sininen, ja maa vihreä.
Kuningas tunsi, että ilo ja suru ovat sisarukset ihmisen elämässä.
Ja ilman niitä ihmisen elämä on tyhjä."

Kertoja Mika Waltariin näytelmään perustuvassa elokuvassa Kuningas, jolla ei ollut sydäntä.

One moment

In one of my favorite movies (Hannnah and her sisters) by one of my favorite directors (Woody Allen) there is a quote from poet E.E. Cummings poem.

Bean, I think he writes of the way I feel about you..
------------------
Erään lempiohjaajani (Woody Allen) eräässä lempielokuvista (Hannah ja sisaret) lainataan E.E. Cummings 'in runoa.

Papuseni, hän taitaa kirjoittaa tunteistani sinua kohtaan...

[somewhere i have never travelled]

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Crumpet
