What ho, no, not the bird

Lord Bosham: "'Then, by Jove', he said, 'this bird is the bird, after all! I thought for a while,' he explained, 'that he couldn't be the bird, but now you've told this it's quite clear he must be the bird. The bird in the flesh, By Jingo! Well, I'm dashed!'"

You have nudist views?

"Some time before, when he had found it impossible for him to be in her presence, still less to converse with her, without experiencing a warm, clammy, shooting sensation and a feeling of general weakness similar to that which follows a well-directed blow at the solar plexus, he had come to the conclusion that he must be in love."
Exactly five years ago we went on our first date. That night eight-year friendship changed into love..

Päivälleen viisi vuotta sitten menimme ensitreffeille. Tuona iltana kahdeksan vuoden ystävyys muuttui rakkaudeksi..

The past was past and a new era had begun

"Love, Miss Holiday, is delicate plant. It needs tending, nursing, assiduous fostering."

Elämämme on yhteisiä harrastuksia, arkea ihanassa kodissamme, matkustelua, haaveita & unelmia - kahden ihmisen välistä onnea.

Kaikki, mitä haluamme, on tässä.

He was luxuriating in restful solitude in a punt under a willow by the bank of the moat

"Mr John Hamilton Potter, founder and proprietor of the well-known New York publishing house of  J. H. Potter Inc., laid down the typescript which had been engaging his leisurely attention, and from the depths of his basket-chair gazed dreamily across the green lawns and gleaming flower-beds to where Skelldings Hall basket in the pleasent June sunshine. He was feeling quietly happy. The waters of the moat glittered like liquid silver; a gentle breeze brought to his nostrils the scent of newly cut grass; the doves in the immemorial elms cooed and he had not seen Clifford Gandle since luncheon. God, it seemed to Mr Potter, was in his heaven and all was right in the world."

He lowered the beer bottle from his lips in some surprise

Lavender Briggs: "There is just one thing," she said. "No more fuddling yourself with alcoholic liquor. This is very delicate operation which you will be undertaking, and we can not risk failure. I want you to be bright and alert. So no more drinking."
George Cyril Wellbeloved: " Except beer, of course."
Lavender Briggs: "No beer."
If George Cyril had not been sitting on an upturned wheelbarrow, he would have reeled.
George Cyril Wellbeloved: "No beer?"
Lavender Briggs: "No beer."
George Cyril Wellbeloved: "When you say no beer, do you mean no beer?"

So you and Boko are planning to leap among the orange blossoms?

"There was one startled moment when I wondered if I was seeing things, and then - bang - like a thunderbolt."

Maybe it's time to reveal here in our blog that we got married, some time ago (our month's trip to Paris was actually a real honeymoon). We eloped - in secret from everyone & just the two of us - and managed to surprise all those close to us & friends. The day was planned to our taste; it was relaxed, delicious and filled with laughter. Pictures of the beautiful day are a lovely remembrance to us, thanks to Oka Morikawa..
----------

But true

Human happiness

"It is in the Spring that the ache for the Larger Life comes upon us, and this was a particularly mellow Spring morning. It was the sort of morning when the air gives us a feeling of anticipation, a feeling that, on a day like this, things surely cannot go joggling along in the same dull old groove, a premonition that something romantic and exciting is about to happen to us. On such a morning you will see stout old gentlemen make sudden rollicking swings with their umbrellas; and a note of shrill optimism thrills in the errand-boy's whistle, as he sees life opening before him, large and splendid."

He was listening to his pig

How many would get offended by the idea, that their spouse would call them by nicknames such as piggy, pig, piglet, pigster, oinkster or little-piggy-wiggy?

Bean has given these pig-themed nicknames for Crumpet, inspired by Blandings Castle -books and the Empress-pig, which enjoys it's life eating and sleeping in the piggery. And Crumpet loves her nicknames..

------
Monikohan suuttuisi ajatuksesta, että puoliso kutsuisi tätä lempinimillä possu, nasu, piglet, possukka, oinkster, porkster, nöf-nöf tai pikku-porsas?

Bean on antanut mm. nämä possuaiheiset lempinimet Crumpetille Blandings Castle -kirjojen Empress-possun mukaan, joka tyytyväisenä nauttii elämästään lätissään syöden ja nukkuen. Ja Crumpet rakastaa lempinimiään..

Anyone can see he's head over ears in love with the girl

'Yes, I'll marry you, Willie, but I think it's only fair that you should know what you're letting yourself in for.'
'What do you mean?'
'Just this, that if I marry, it'll be for keeps. When I take you for my wedded husband, you'll stay taken. You're going to have me around for an awful long time, Willie.'
'Suits me.'
'You're sure?'
'Sure I'm sure.'
'Then I see no objection to you folding me in your arms again. It felt kind of good the fir
st time.'

A real enthusiast

I have known a few, true collectors (men and women) in my time. That is why this quote caught my eye..

"It does not matter, what a man collects; if Nature has given him the collector's mind, he will become a fanatic on the subject of whatever collection he sets out to make...Gradually he came to love his scarabs with that love passing the love of women which only collectors know...Collecting, as Mr Peters did it, resembles the drink habit. It begins as an amusement, and ends as an obsession."

Blandings Castle slept in the sunshine

I purchased online all the books I was missing from the Blandings Castle -saga by P.G. Wodehouse.

Why, you might ask? Because:

"The gardens of Blandings Castle are that original garden from which we are all exiled.
All those who know them long to return."

Manly utopia according to Jeeves & Wooster

Uuden blogin kunniaksi on hyvä julkaista muutama sana Jeevesistä & Woosterista :)
