The Vatican recently updated their list of deadly sins. Pearing through the list of old ones, it's easy to say that I have committed all of them, in one form or another. But perhaps the sins I commit most often are sloth (I am lazy), lust (for my Bean) and gluttony (what can I say, I love great food).

Vatikaani päivitti taannoin kuolemansyntiensä listaa. Kun tarkastelen listaa vanhoista kuolemansynneistä, voin helposti todeta, että olen syyllistynyt niihin kaikkiin, tavalla tai toisella. Mutta synnit, joihin useimmiten syyllistyn ovat laiskuus (olen laiska :)), himo (Papuani kohtaan) ja ylensyönti (satun pitämään herkullisesta ruuasta).

Too hot

Last weekend we were franticly searching for cream filled buns (semlas) Finns eat near Shrove Tuesday and there, as we were circling round the aisles, someone took our shopping cart and left theirs instead.

We split, because the store was quite big, so that we could reach the person in time. Bean eventually found this young lady with our cart. She was understandably a bit abashed.

We talked with Bean about how you should approach a person in that situation, so that you don't frighten them (especially when there is an elderly person involved). There was no real harm done, only some time wasted :)

We all make mistakes. It's not that serious.

Viime viikonloppuna etsimme kuumeisesti kaupassa laskiaispullia ja siinä hyllyjen välissä kierrellessämme joku vei ostoskärrymme ja jätti omansa tilalle.

Hajaannuimme, sillä kauppa oli kohtuullisen kokoinen, jotta tavoittaisimme henkilön ajoissa. Papu löysi lopulta nuoren naisen, jolla kärrymme olivat. Hän oli tilanteesta ymmärrettävästi hämillään.

Juttelimme Pavun kanssa, miten moisessa tilanteessa virheen tehnyttä ihmistä on lähestyttävä varoen, ettei hän säikähdä (varsinkin, jos kyseessä on vanhempi ihminen). Eihän mitään vahinkoa ole oikeasti tapahtunut, hieman aikaa vain tärvääntynyt :)

Me kaikki teemme virheitä. Ei se ole niin vakavaa.

It’s always nice to have flowers as gift..or is it?
Giving flowers as a gift can also very difficult..

Evergreen decorative plant as a gift is a gamble. Many see them as decorative elements and therefore want to decide themselves the type of plants they grow in their homes. Pot plant can also be burden on the receiver, if the receiver of the gift is one with out green fingers which causes the plant to die suddenly, leaving the receiver to explain it’s sudden disappearance (which is not nice):)

With a pot plant receiver needs also to acquire a pot and some soil and fertilizer (if they don’t have those items at home)..So the gift might come to be an expensive investment to the receiver :)

I prefer giving cut flowers as a gift and try to find out forehand 1) which species the and 2) which colours receiver prefers 3) and what does the language of flowers say to the receiver?

When I visited my parents-in-law for the first time, I gave my mother-in-law white sword lilies. My estimate was in that sense correct that she really liked them. Later on I have found out that she does not like yellow flowers at all..This kind of information is worth its weight in gold when pondering about a flower gift :)

Above a mini-orchid my mother-in-law gave us. It’s staying in a glass jar in our home..as long as it survives :)

Kukkalahja on aina ihana saada..vai onko?
Kukkalahjan antaminenkin on hankalaa..

Viherkasvin vieminen lahjaksi on arpapeliä. Monet mieltävät viherkasvit sisustuselementeiksi, ja haluavat siksi itse päättää, millaisia kasveja kotiin tulee. Ja viherkasvi voi olla myös taakka saajalleen, sillä jos kasvin saaja ei ole viherpeukalo ja kasvi kuolee äkillisesti, voi saaja joutua selittelemään kasvin pikaista katoamista sen antajalle, mikä ei ole mukavaa :)

Lisäksi viherkasvin saajan pitää hankkia ruukku ja multaa ja lannoitetta (jos näitä ei ole kodissa entuudestaan)..Eli toisin sanoen lahja voi muodostua saajalle kalliiksi :)

Itse annan mieluiten lahjaksi leikkokukkia ja yritän etukäteen selvittää niidenkin osalta 1) mistä lajikkeista saaja pitää 2) mistä väreistä ja 3) mikä sopisi saajan kotiin sekä 4) mietin, mitä kukkien kieli kertoo vastaanottajalle?

Kun vierailin appivanhempieni luona ensimmäistä kertaa, vein silloin anopilleni lahjaksi valkoisia gladioluksia. Arvioni osui oikeaan, sillä hän piti kukista todella paljon. Myöhemmin paljastui, että anoppini ei muuten pidä keltaisista kukista lainkaan.. Tällaiset tiedot ovat kullan arvoisia kukkalahjaa miettiessä :)

Yllä anopiltani saamamme mini-orkidea, joka asustaa kotonamme lasiruuukussa..niin kauan kuin se jaksaa porskuttaa :)

Nice to see you

Mamma Rosa (Mother Rose) has operated next to Töölöntori for over 20 years.
B&C has eaten there on several occasions and noticed it's good qualities:
food is delicious and the service & interior make your visit even more enjoyable..
And as our friend said, the best scenario happens if you get a table from the street-level dining hall :)

We'll definitely come back there, for the great pizzas anyway!
And as the other photo reveals, Kir Royal fever is still burning strong :)

Mamma Rosa eli Äiti Ruusu on toiminut Töölöntorin reunalla jo yli 20 vuoden ajan.
B&C on ruokaillut paikassa useamman kerran ja todennut sen toimivaksi:
ruoka on varsin maittavaa ja palvelu sekä interiööri edesauttavat viihtymistä..
Ja kuten eräs ystävämme sanoi, parasta paikassa on se, jos pääsee istumaan katutason saliin :)

Timer-Chicken

Say hello to our timer-chicken! Timer-chicken was bought from a little design shop in Paris, on Montmartre, near Sacré-Coeur. We just love it!

It makes sure, that we don’t forget our warm breads into the oven, or overcook breakfast eggs. Every time we need to be reminded of the time passing, our little chicken is there.

I'm in love again

And so is Bean! To the restaurant Wellamo, tucked away in Katajanokka, where we enjoyd terrific meal, the best company and very French bisto-esc interior. We'll definately go back, soon!

Above one on the starters, grilled chevre and bruschetta and one of the desserts, creps with finnish berry compote, vanilla ice cream.
