You have nudist views?

"Some time before, when he had found it impossible for him to be in her presence, still less to converse with her, without experiencing a warm, clammy, shooting sensation and a feeling of general weakness similar to that which follows a well-directed blow at the solar plexus, he had come to the conclusion that he must be in love."
Exactly five years ago we went on our first date. That night eight-year friendship changed into love..

Päivälleen viisi vuotta sitten menimme ensitreffeille. Tuona iltana kahdeksan vuoden ystävyys muuttui rakkaudeksi..

He was luxuriating in restful solitude in a punt under a willow by the bank of the moat

"Mr John Hamilton Potter, founder and proprietor of the well-known New York publishing house of  J. H. Potter Inc., laid down the typescript which had been engaging his leisurely attention, and from the depths of his basket-chair gazed dreamily across the green lawns and gleaming flower-beds to where Skelldings Hall basket in the pleasent June sunshine. He was feeling quietly happy. The waters of the moat glittered like liquid silver; a gentle breeze brought to his nostrils the scent of newly cut grass; the doves in the immemorial elms cooed and he had not seen Clifford Gandle since luncheon. God, it seemed to Mr Potter, was in his heaven and all was right in the world."

"Others like to read books about art, but I prefer to read books about cooking", said Bean while browsing through our Christmas gift, Jamie Oliver's Jamie at home.

"Toiset tykkää lukea taidekirjoja, mutta minä tykkään lukea näitä kokkikirjoja", sanoi Papu selaillessaan joululahjaksi saamaamme Jamie Oliverin Jamien kotona kirjaa.

He lowered the beer bottle from his lips in some surprise

Lavender Briggs: "There is just one thing," she said. "No more fuddling yourself with alcoholic liquor. This is very delicate operation which you will be undertaking, and we can not risk failure. I want you to be bright and alert. So no more drinking."
George Cyril Wellbeloved: " Except beer, of course."
Lavender Briggs: "No beer."
If George Cyril had not been sitting on an upturned wheelbarrow, he would have reeled.
George Cyril Wellbeloved: "No beer?"
Lavender Briggs: "No beer."
George Cyril Wellbeloved: "When you say no beer, do you mean no beer?"

Calvados Coquerel "Fine Calvados"

Ajattelimme tällä kertaa hieman avata tämänkertaisen menumme muotoutumista (koska eräs lukijamme on kiinnostunut reseptien taustoista:)).

Pavlovaan päädyimme, koska Papu halusi jälkiruuaksi jotain, missä on tuoreita marjoja.

Human happiness

"It is in the Spring that the ache for the Larger Life comes upon us, and this was a particularly mellow Spring morning. It was the sort of morning when the air gives us a feeling of anticipation, a feeling that, on a day like this, things surely cannot go joggling along in the same dull old groove, a premonition that something romantic and exciting is about to happen to us. On such a morning you will see stout old gentlemen make sudden rollicking swings with their umbrellas; and a note of shrill optimism thrills in the errand-boy's whistle, as he sees life opening before him, large and splendid."

Are you very busy just now?

Recipe for a delicious day off:

- to sleep as long as one likes (especially, if one has collected mixtapes from the internet until half past two in the morning;))
- cuddle in the morning (so that even our late riser Bean manages to wake up..)
- eat breakfast (rocket on a yammy bread)
- read the morning paper (this is quick - Helsingin Sanomat has been strangely thin lately)
- watch a bit of first season of Star Trek: Voyager (Bean has gone a bit crazy on ST;))
- take a litlle nap (on the couch)
- despite the cold (it was -12C degrees) toddle into to swimming hall for a decent dip (the regulars are there anyway, despite the weather)
- cook lasagne and cherry tomatoes in oven (loving the smell of fresh basil in the winter)
- ponder about new photos on our living room ceiling (after pictures from NYC it's time for Lisbon & window theme)
- read some (now reading Herman Wouk's Inside, Outside; Albert Camus' The Outsider (L’Étranger) and Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin's The Physiology of Taste (Physiologie du goût)).

By Bean & Crumpet
------

- katsellaan vähän Star Trek: Voyager'in ensimmäistä tuotantokautta (Papu on vähän hurahtanut ;))
- otetaan pienet päiväunet (sohvalla)
- lähdetään pakkasesta (-12C) huolimatta uimaan (vakiporukka on aina paikalla, säässä kuin säässä)
- laitetaan lasagnea ja kirsikkatomaatteja uunissa (tuorebasilika on niiin ihanan tuoksuista näin talvisin)
- mietitään uusia valokuvia olohuoneen seinälle (NYCin kuvin jälkeen vuorossa Lissabon & ikkunateema)
- lueskellaan (nyt luennassa Herman Woukin Manhattan, Albert Camus'n Sivullinen, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarinin Maun fysiologia)

He had no secrets from his nearest and dearest

When January stands still and the freeze bickers in the corners, it's time to dig up H.E. Bates' The Pop Larkin Chronicles and the endearing The Darling Buds of May -series.

Curl up together on the sofa, under the blankets and marvel upon the Larkin family idyl, where there is always summer, laughter, closeness and feasts.

Summer will come, soon enough..

Kun tammikuu polkee paikoillaan ja pakkanen nahistelee nurkissa, on aika kaivaa esiin H.E. Batesin Oi ihana toukokuu ja iki-ihana The Darling Buds of May -sarja.

Käperrytään yhdessä sohvalle, peiton alle ja ihastellaan Larkinin perheen idylliä, jossa on ainainen kesä, naurua, läheisyyttä ja herkuttelua.

Kesä tulee, pian..

Anyone can see he's head over ears in love with the girl

'Yes, I'll marry you, Willie, but I think it's only fair that you should know what you're letting yourself in for.'
'What do you mean?'
'Just this, that if I marry, it'll be for keeps. When I take you for my wedded husband, you'll stay taken. You're going to have me around for an awful long time, Willie.'
'Suits me.'
'You're sure?'
'Sure I'm sure.'
'Then I see no objection to you folding me in your arms again. It felt kind of good the fir
st time.'

Oh, how the times have changed

Löysin divarista jo vuosia, vuosia sitten, Joka naisen niksikirjan vuodelta 1951.
