Touch of cramp

When one travels to a country where people are known to drink alcohol in large quantities, one might assume, that on a chilly winter day one might be able pick some spirits from a store to warm oneself up.

A tourist asks with broken English from the salesperson, after wondering around the store: "Rum?"

Salesperson: "No."

Tourist: "Vodka?"

Salesperson: "No."

Baffled tourist leaves the store.

"I've been trying to loose some weight lately, but I'm not able to shift any. Then I wondered, could it be something to do with the fact, that I down eight pints here every evening?"

Here again some food pictures from few weeks back. The recipe for potato galette is from the book Makuja ja tuoksuja pähkinäpuun alta - thinly sliced potato, herbs, olive oil and sea salt on a crusty bread - makings of a classic recipe.

Tässä jälleen ruokakuvia parilta eri viikonlopulta. Perunagaleten ohje löytyi Makuja ja tuoksuja pähkinäpuun alta -kirjasta - rapean pohjan päällä ohueksi siivutettua perunaa, yrttejä, oliiviöljyä ja hiutalesuolaa - klassikkoreseptin ainekset.

 We tried Jamie Oliver's Jamie at home books english onion soup with sage and cheddar, but came to realize that we liked the french onion soup we made earlier better.

Kokeilimme Jamie Oliverin Jamien kotona-kirjasta salvialla ja cheddarilla höystettyä englantilaista sipulikeittoa, mutta totesimme, että  aiemmin valmistamme ranskalainen sipulikeitto oli parempaa.

We've made quite a few acquisitions for our home lately, but perhaps the most interesting of them was bought from Tomorrow's Antique, the 401 pendant designed by Antti Nurmesniemi, which matches beautifully with our bedrooms Poikilo-wallpaper, designed by Lisa Johanson-Pape. The 1950's theme is really starting to take shape in our homes decor..

"Well, then I thought, should I drink or not. And then I decided yes, and got myself a bottle of vodka. Of course I drank the lot. When I woke up at seven in the morning I was feeling a bit queasy. Then I slept for an hour and was ready to come here for swim."

I'm feeling rather funny, and I think I'll get a bit of sleep

 

Tässä ruokakuvia parilta eri viikonlopulta. Katkarapukeiton reseptin nappasimme Helsingin sanomien ruokatorstai-sivuilta, käytimme keittoon kilon kuorittuja katkoja, mutta vain n. 800 gramman kuoret. Resepti on todella hyvä, joten tätä keittoa tulemme ehdottomasti valmistamaan jatkossakin.

 

Haudutetun kuhan ja palsternakka-piparjuuripyreen reseptin näimme - yllättävää kyllä - Ylen Aamu-tv:n Voita & Sokeria osiossa, me kun hyvin harvoin aamu-tv:tä katselemme. Emme onnistuneet saamaan ohjeen kastikkeesta hyvää (liekö vika kokeissa vai reseptissä), joten seuraavalla kerralla korvaamme sen esim. hollandaise-kastikkeella ja paistaisimme kuhan voissa pannulla. Palsternakka ja piparjuuri sopivat mainiosti yhteen.

Minikakut väkersimme ystävänpäivän kunniaksi -meillä kun ei ollut hääkakkua, niin nyt sitten vähän korjattiin tilannetta. Muottisarjallamme sokerikakkupohjasta sai sopivia kerroksia ja pinnan tasoituksessa uusi Kokkipuodista ostamamme palettilasta osoitti hyödyllisyytensä.
