He had seen something that brought the roses back to his cheeks

In Paris, on Rue Vivienne (75002) near the stock exchange (that is bourse in French), is a bistro called La Bourse ou La Vie (Your Money or Your Life), which decor could be described by calling it 'a drunkards nightmare'. The bistro is owned by former architect, Patrice Porte (pictured in the white shirt), who seems to be threre always, larger than life - enjoying his wines - chatting up regulars and shaking hands & kissing everybody else.

But there is unbeatable attraction: pavé au poivre avec frites -  that is pepper steak with fries. Our steaks were à point (medium), - tender and juicy. The fries tasted delicious (they are fried in suet), but the real catch of the dish is the pepper cover on the steak - the amount of pepper gives an intoxicating feeling - and the peppery cream sauce. This pleasure leaves a permanent memory..

Paikan omistaa entinen arkkitehti, Patrice Porte (kuvassa selin valkoisessa paidassa), joka tuntuu olevan aina paikalla, elämää suurempana - viineistään nauttien - jututtaen vakiasiakkaita ja kätellen & poskisuudellen kaikkia kävijöitä. 

Paikalla on kuitenkin löymätön vetonaula: pavé au poivre avec frites eli pippuripihvi ranskalaisilla. Pihvimme olivat à point (mediumeja), - mureita ja mehukkaita. Ranskalaiset maistuvat herkullisilta (ne on paistettu eläinrasvassa), mutta koko ruuan kruunaa pihvin pippurikuorrutus - pippurin määrä tuntuu humalluttavalta kokemukselta - ja kermainen pippurikastike. Tämä nautinto jättää pysyvän muiston..
