Hide and seek

My mother-in-law told me yesterday that she had discussed with her husband about someone we three know. They had reached a conclusion that this person is asexual. I found this assessment really interesting. They based their opinion (among other things) to the fact that this person uses her appearance to achieve things or to further her goals and also to the fact that this person is obviously unable show true intimacy and tender feelings towards other people. Further more my mother-in-law suspected that the current relationship this person is in is just “a front” where in fact the other party is indeed hiding their asexuality and the other their possible bi- or gay sexuality.

It is difficult to say how accurate the assessment my parents-in-law had made was, but anyway it made ponder about the fact that how many people still live in these relationships that are just fronts, to cover their true sexual orientation? I believe there are still many relationships based on this purpose. I see nothing wrong with that, if both parties involved accept the idea.

There are many identities that people nowadays accept, but still many people don’t even know about, asexuality being perhaps one of the lesser known. Whether the reason to hide ones true identity is this or that, it probably is not easy to hide. But it is not easy to come out either.

Anoppini kertoi eilen minulle keskustelleensa miehensä kanssa eräästä ihmisestä, jonka me kaikki kolme tunnemme.
