Bad news

I suppose when one's mind is like a childs, then one get's child's diseases? :) Well, an earinfection anyway. When one is sick, one comes to appreciate the good things in life. To have a home to be sick in (not everyone has that privilage), TLC from family and friends and so on. Despite everything, one notices, how lucky one truly is.
----------
Jos on lapsenmielinen, ilmeisesti sitten sairastuu lastentauteihinkin? :) Tai no korvatulehdukseen ainakin.

Rome revisited

1. The contrast between the historical part of the Rome and the "real" Rome, where romans live.
2. Food, glorious food: pizza from "al taglio", salads, antipasto, pasta and fresh fruits and berries for desserts and snaks.. And gelato (ice cream) con panna :)
3. The mighty Tiber-river
4. Friendly and excellent service everywhere.
5. Finnish tourist (seemingly) everywhere.
-------------------
3. Uljas Tiber-joki.
4. Ystävällinen ja upea palvelu kaikkialla.
5. Suomalaiset turistit, joita oli (ainakin näennäisesti) kaikkialla.

3. Herkkusushi Yo!Sushista.
4. Häikäisevä Victoria ja Albert Museo.
5. London Trocadero, jossa voit huvitella muutamalla pencelläkin.

Paris revisited

1.The vastness of the huge sites, for example Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum.
2.The delicious food everywhere: couscous, croissants, cakes, food in bistros and so forth...
3.Mats on the side of the roads that direct the washing water from the sideways to the sewers.
4.Centre Pompidou and overdose on jazz (record stores :))
5.Smell of urine everywhere (are the tourists or locals to blame?) and the lack of public restrooms.
-----------
1.Suurten nähtävyyksien suuruus: esim. Eiffel torni ja Louvre
2.Ihana herkkuruoka kaikkialla: mm. couscous, croissantit, leivonnaiset, bistroruoka jne.
3.Katujen varsien räsymatot, jotka ohjaavat jalkakäytävien pesuvesiä viemäriaukkoihin.
4.Centre Pompidou ja jazzin (varsinkin levykauppojen :)) yliannostus
5.Virtsan haju joka puolella (turistit vai paikalliset ”asialla? :)”) ja julkisten vessojen puute.

Summer lightning

The many reasons why people decide to commit to each other legally are very interesting. The most cynic reason could be to collect money and gifts from relatives and friends. Others commit because “that is something one is supposed to do”. Sometimes the relationship is in crises and to avoid break-up people commit to each other even tighter (or that it might seem). Sometimes couple might have been together for a long time and for that they feel pressure to commit (to show that the relationship is going somewhere?). Sometimes people commit because their friends have done so. Sometimes the couple is pressured by relatives to commit. Sometimes the reasons behind commitment are financial or juridical. And sometimes, thankfully more often then not, the reason to commit is genuine desire to love ones partner and share ones life with them.

On mielenkiintoista, miten moninaisista syistä ihmiset sitoutuvat toisiinsa lainvoimaisesti.

Capital, capital, capital.

It’s nice to have a workplace dead in the centre of Helsinki. In the winter you can escape the sleet and the wretchedness in to Stockmann or to Wanha Kauppahalli. In both of them you can circle around and look at the “goodies” on offer.

In the summer there is Esplanadi Park, where you can have lunch picnic, even in the middle of the workday. Or Kauppatori with it’s hustle and bustle and The Helsinki Cathedral and its steers, where you can sit and eat an ice cream cone. Throughout the year you can dine in various restaurants.

Best option is if your life companion works in the same neck of the woods. Then you can enjoy each others company and have a lunch together during a workday, summer or winter.
------------

Läpi vuoden on tarjolla monenmoista syötävää erilaisissa ravintoloissa.

Parasta tietysti on, jos elämänkumppani työskentelee samoilla kulmilla. Silloin työpäivän voi katkaista yhteisellä lounaalla, kesät talvet.

Away from here

When travelling almost everything you see, experience, do, smell or taste is new to you. In your everyday life you can routinely do things, without concentrating in to them too deeply. On your way to the store close to you or to work you can fall into your thoughts and you do not have to react to every stimulus you come by.

This is not the case when travelling. Everything around you requires attention from your senses, even sitting down in a cafe, because you have to focus on how to make your order or did you get the things you ordered or is the cheque right, and so fort. The fact that all your senses are under constant stream of stimuli, makes you tired. If you have too much stimuli, you are no longer able to react to it, even if would be masses of people in La Rambla or a painting of Rubens in Louvre. That is why it is important, that the hole you rest and relax your senses on your travels, is comfortable and offers you tranquillity you need. After silence and stillness you are once again ready see, experience and enjoy everything your trip has to offer.
----------------------------------

Toisin on matkustaessa. Kaikki ympärilläsi vaatii aistien valppautta, jopa kahville istahtaminen, sillä on keskityttävä siihen, miten kyseissä kahvilassa pitää toimia ja tilata, saatko tilaamasi tuotteet, onko lasku oikein jne. jne.

Death, damnation and despair

Can one do hard physical work without (if a mistake/accident happens) swearing?

Close to my office couple of men were drilling a hole to pavement with a big machine of some sort and when thing went wrong, the other man yelled "voi perrkele" (perkele is one of finnish swear words meaning "the devil")! The hole situation was defined perfectly in to these two words and no one who heard him bellow was left bewildered of what had just happend.. A lesser curse like "hitto" or "itku" would not had delivered the message..

-----------

The little bird that I am..

This morning the driver of my bus was whistling. And he did not whistle in any random fashion, but like a little birdy.

Listening him whistle made the ride very pleasant. When I stepped out of the bus, the sun was shining very brightly and the birds (this time real ones) chirped cheerfully. Can you have a nicer morning?
--------------
Aamulla bussini kuski vihelteli.

Voiko aamu paremmin alkaa?

The mating season

Spring, what a wonderful mating season it is! Nature prepares itself to bloom and blossom, animals seek for a companion and people join in to the frenzy..

Spring and summer are time for weddings and babies, at least that is the way it seems when looking people close by :) Humans want to belong to natures cycle, be a part of the fertility of life. How easily that sensation catches upon one, can one have any chance to avoid it? And even if one could, why would one want to?

Kevät, tuo ihana pariutumisen aika! Luonto valmistautuu puhkeamaan kukoistukseen, eläimet etsivät kumppania ja ihmiset liittyvät samaan riehaan..

Keväällä ja kesällä on häiden ja vauvojen aika, siltä ainakin lähipiirissä näyttää :) Ihminen haluaa kuulua luonnon kiertokulkuun, olla osa elämän hedelmällisyyttä. Kuinka helposti tuo tuntemus tarttuukaan, voiko sitä edes välttää? Ja vaikka voisikin, miksi edes haluaisi?
