Welrome Hotel, Rome - a home away from home

Bean & Crumpet is compelled to write about Welrome Hotel in Termini, Rome. This little hotel is run by a couple, Mary and Carlo. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and relaxed in the hotel and guide you to the best sights and restaurants when heading out. Mary looked after us and made sure that we were aware of the pickpockets lurking everywhere (our mamma away from home) :)

The rooms are very clean and nice, and the air condition is a great plus. Bean and Crumpet highly recommend this establishment and remember: Welrome is extremely popular these days, due to great feedback in the Internet so make sure to book as early as possible.

Bean & Crumpet on suorastaan pakotettu kirjoittamaan Welrome Hotellista, Terminissä, Roomassa.

B&C suosittelevat tätä hotellia ja muistuttavat: Welrome on nykyisin erittäin suosittu (erittäin positiivisen netti-palautteen takia), joten varaus kannattaa tehdä ensitilassa.

Quite, quite.

Is it a sign of getting older, that one prefers to sit in the front of a bus/tram (near the safety of the driver) instead the back (away from the authorities)? I think so..
---------

Heavy weather

Travel photography is a form of photography practised by almost everyone treating on this earth. Unfortunately it is often the most boring form, together with taking photos of your children or pets. In the age of digital photography one can capture ones hole trip from start to finish (from your doorstep and back again). Of course this is “a sin” which I myself commit also:) One can wonder, is there anything worse than to look through a couple of hundred photos from your friend’s trip? This flicking through comes with almost painful narrative: first they wonder what the picture is about (because it’s out of focus) and then they wonder where the picture was taken (because they have taken pictures of everything, what they have seen). On top of everything the pictures are often incredibly dull: general views, that don’t present properly the beauty, size or richness of colour of their subject.

On the other hand, digital photography has been a great equalizer: because one does not need to develop the pictures (which is relatively expensive) to look at them later, many are financially able to capture their experiences. Even though the quantity of photos has increased due digitalisation, it is interesting to ponder, which amount of them will survive to following generations (just for the reason that people don’t develop them anymore) and which will be forever lost in to byte space.

-------------
Matkavalokuvaaminen on lähes jokaisen pallontallaajan harrastama valokuvauksen laji.

Toisaalta digikuvaus on tuonut uutta tasa-arvoa valokuvaamiseen: koska kuvia ei tarvitse kehittää (mikä on suhteellisen kallista) voidakseen katsella niitä myöhemmin, on yhä useammalla taloudellisesti mahdollista ikuistaa omia kokemuksiaan. Vaikka valokuvaaminen onkin lisääntynyt huimasti digitaalisuuden myötä, on mielenkiintoista miettiä, mikä määrä kuvista säilyy tuleville polville, (juuri siitä syystä, koska kuvia ei enää kehitetä) vaan häviää bittiavaruuteen lopullisesti.

I thought so

Today I was hurrying back to work from lunch (I was late obviously:)) but even in the midst of running I stopped to smell lovely apple tree flowers on the way.

Sometimes one needs to remind oneself that those fantastic moments in life just fly past, there and then, while running to work etc. and you can never get them back. Apple tree flowers wilt and wind blows them away.

Did you remember to enjoy them?
-----

It spoils a joke to keep it up too long

Heard in the men’s dressing room in Swimming Stadium, Helsinki:

A small boy runs around, completely naked, lifts his hands above his head from joy, closes his eyes and shouts:

”Let’s make loooveee!”

Isn't it cute, when children don't know the meaning of the expressions they use..:)
--------
Uimastadionin miesten pukuhuoneessa kuultua:

Pieni poika juoksee ilkosen alasti, nostaa kätensä ylös riemusta ja huutaa innoissaan, silmät kiinni:

”Let’s make loooveee!”

On söpöä, kun lapset erehtyvät sanontojen merkityksistä..:)

I beg your pardon

Eddie: Oh, God! Insects, insects! They followed me, those bloody insects.
Insects follow me everywhere, darling. From Tuscany to the Caribbean. Insects,
insects, insects! You know, I usually see pictures of glamorous houses in
Marrakesh, for God's sake. You don't see spiders scuttling into the corner. You
never see a picture of Jane Seymour with a centipede dangling from her bloody
tiara! No, they just follow me, they bloody follow me. I mean, a mosquito has
never bitten you, for God's sake!

Patsy: The last mosquito that bit me had to
book into the Betty Ford Clinic.

Absolutely Fabulous “France

The quote from Ab Fab is straight out of my life...I am the person, who is bitten by mosquitoes everywhere. Apparently my body temperature and smell are perfect for them and I out hale loads of carbon dioxide. I would not mind it though, but I happen to be very sensitive to their bites..

Small bite by black fly and my finger swell double to its normal size (this, by the way, happened this spring, while I was laying home on our couch, the window open:)) Or a sting by a mosquito and I get mark size of a hand (for real) on my thigh. Well, that is good enough reason, why I enjoy living in a city and don’t enjoy spending time in the Finnish forests..
--------------

No tässäpä hyvä peruste sille, miksi viihdyn kaupungissa, enkä vapaa-ajallani ole metsissä samoilevaa tyyppiä..

Bad news

I suppose when one's mind is like a childs, then one get's child's diseases? :) Well, an earinfection anyway. When one is sick, one comes to appreciate the good things in life. To have a home to be sick in (not everyone has that privilage), TLC from family and friends and so on. Despite everything, one notices, how lucky one truly is.
----------
Jos on lapsenmielinen, ilmeisesti sitten sairastuu lastentauteihinkin? :) Tai no korvatulehdukseen ainakin.

1. The contrast between the historical part of the Rome and the "real" Rome, where romans live.

-------------------

3. Uljas Tiber-joki.
4. Ystävällinen ja upea palvelu kaikkialla.
5. Suomalaiset turistit, joita oli (ainakin näennäisesti) kaikkialla.
